Thank you for your interest in volunteering with LFSRM Denver! Before we introduce you to your new refugee neighbors, we ask volunteers to complete the following:
Note: We can only accept volunteers who live in the greater Denver Metro area .
Step One: Volunteer Orientation Session One
LFSRM Volunteer Orientation: Refugee 101 is an interactive, self-paced course on Canvas that offers an introduction to global migration, forced displacement, refugee resettlement, and the work of Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM). You'll also learn about volunteer opportunities. The four modules include video clips, online resources, and opportunities to share with us what you are learning.
This course will take approximately 90 minutes to complete, but you can progress through the modules at your own pace. After finishing all of the modules, please register for the second half of our training, hosted on Zoom by our Community Engagement Team .
Volunteer Orientation Session One
Step Two: Volunteer Orientation Session Two This 2-hour, interactive online session builds on Refugee 101. While the first course focuses on the why of refugee resettlement, this session focuses on the how—practical ways volunteers can support families as they rebuild their lives. We’ll cover cultural sensitivity, communication, and how volunteer teams can walk alongside newcomers. The online training includes group discussions and real-life scenarios. Once you have completed these two sessions, we will send you a link for our volunteer application and background check .
