The Emergency Humanitarian Relief and Support program provides support to asylum seekers to ensure access to services and community support. Asylum seekers are those who have fled their country of origin and are unable to return because of a well-founded fear of being persecuted because of their race, religion, nationality, or membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
Each individual and family undergoes an Assessment of Needs to determine services needed. A plan of action with accompanied goals is then created. Clients are also provided with a cultural orientation to ensure they have the knowledge needed to effectively navigate public services including healthcare, hospital systems, and public transportation.
For clients with children, a case manager will create an education plan for all school-aged children and will connect families with children under school-age with Early Childhood Education options.
Clients that receive their work authorization will be referred to LFSRM’s Career Navigation Services to access pre-employment skills coaching and career planning, and employment-related referrals to community partners.
Additional community resource referrals may be made for psychosocial support, housing assistance, mental health services, clothing needs, and food assistance.
